Your first appointment

We know seeing a new health professional can feel uncertain — especially if you've had mixed experiences before. Here's exactly what to expect so there are no surprises.

Before you arrive

What to bring

Comfortable clothing you can move in (shorts and a t-shirt are ideal). Any relevant imaging, reports, or referrals (GP referral, specialist letters, MRI results). Your Medicare card, private health insurance details, or funding plan information (NDIS plan, TAC claim number, WorkSafe details). A list of current medications if relevant. Your goals — even if they're vague. "I just want to be able to walk the dog without pain" is a perfectly good starting point.

What you don't need to worry about

Having a diagnosis. We'll work through that together. Being "fit enough." We meet you exactly where you are. Knowing the difference between physio and exercise physiology. We'll guide you to the right service.

What happens during your first session

1. We listen.

Your clinician will spend time understanding your story — not just your symptoms, but your goals, your daily life, what you've tried before, and what matters to you. This isn't a 5-minute chat before we start poking. It's the foundation of your care.

2. We assess.

Depending on why you're here, we'll look at how you move, your strength, your capacity, and anything else that helps us build the full picture. Everything is explained as we go — no surprises.

3. We start.

Most people do something active in their very first session. We'll explain what we've found, what we think is going on, and what the plan looks like — then we'll get moving. You'll leave with a clear understanding of next steps and usually something to work on between sessions.

How billing works

Medicare (EPC referrals)

If your GP provides an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) referral, Medicare covers part of your appointment cost. You're entitled to up to 5 allied health sessions per calendar year. We'll process your claim on the spot — you just pay the gap.

TAC & WorkSafe

If you have an active TAC or WorkSafe claim, your treatment may be fully covered. Bring your claim number and we'll handle the rest.

NDIS

We work with NDIS participants under plan-managed and self-managed arrangements. We'll liaise directly with your support coordinator or plan manager if needed.

DVA

We accept Department of Veterans' Affairs referrals for eligible veterans.

Private health insurance

Most private health funds cover physiotherapy and exercise physiology. Bring your card and we'll process your claim at the time of your appointment.

No referral? No worries.

You don't need a referral to see us privately. You can book directly and pay at the time of your appointment.

How long and how often?

Initial appointments are typically 45–60 minutes. This gives us enough time to understand your situation properly and start treatment — not just assess and send you away.

Follow-up appointments are usually 30–45 minutes depending on your needs.

How often you come back is driven by your progress, not a schedule we've predetermined. Some people need weekly sessions for a period. Others check in fortnightly or monthly. We'll be upfront about what we think you need — and honest when you're ready to manage independently.

Our commitment to you

We won't recommend treatment you don't need. We won't upsell you into packages. And we'll always explain the reasoning behind our recommendations so you can make informed decisions about your own care.

If we're not the right fit, we'll tell you — and point you toward someone who is.
