As the great Eddy Merckx once said “Ride as much or as little, or as long or as short as you feel. But ride.”
Sometimes this is easier said than done! If you have ever experienced pain or discomfort whilst riding you’ll understand the frustration of not being able to complete your desired riding, whether that be a short commute to work or long days in the hills. Being uncomfortable on the bike is something very amenable to an experienced bike fitter.
Be prepared to get a little sweaty! To begin, our experienced physiotherapist/exercise physiologist will take a detailed history including both short and long term goals and injury history. If required, a thorough physical assessment will proceed any peddling, once this is covered your bike will be mounted to a stationary trainer where we will assess your form across a range of cycling intensities.
In collaboration with the athlete’s goals and injury history we will aim to make adjustments to the riders position, always re-assessing to assure a more optimal position is being obtained. Sometimes these adjustments occur around the saddle position, foot position and handlebar position.
We aim to make bike fitting as cost effective as possible, but on occasion equipment, such as saddle choice, footwear choice or handlebar characteristic changes may be recommended.
The great thing about an effective bike fit is that it will not only help alleviate any areas of discomfort subsequent performance improvements usually result! Improved power output, endurance and a more effective cadence will see you not only more comfortable but faster and able to recover quicker.
