There are an overwhelming number of healthcare providers available to you, and choosing the right one can be somewhat daunting and with so many claiming to be ‘the best’ how do you make your choice? It is important to find one that you feel comfortable with and who empowers you through education and support to take control of your life. This blog on different types of healthcare might give you some more clarification on this.
With everything so visible through social media and the internet, it has never been easier to do your research. Look at a clinic's website and their social media content as this should give you a good picture of their values and what to expect from your appointment, if this information sits well with you then they might just be for you. Read google reviews and comments on social media posts, as this will let you know what previous clients think.
Another great way to learn about a clinic is to call and speak to whoever answers the phone, you are allowed to collect information without making a commitment, so have a little checklist: Did they take the time to answer your questions? Were they pushy and trying to force you to book? Did they sound in a rush, like they wanted to get you off the phone? Did they do what they promised (ie - if they were going to email you information or call you back)? If you felt like you were a burden on the phone or kept being talked over, then maybe they were not right for you.
The first question out of our teams mouths in a consultation room is something along the lines of ‘Tell us your story’. We want your story and we will listen - you will be heard. The outcome of your session is discussed in great detail so that you leave with a plan that involves you and taking back control of your life - this step is super important especially if you have been struggling with persistent, long term pain. We promise to never tell you to stop doing something you love, unless we really truly believe it may help you. If you leave a health appointment feeling worse off then when you first went in then you are not getting what you need.
We will never force sessions on you that you do not need or try and sell you miracle products. If we don’t see you again because you are doing well and feeling great then we will be happy for you and support this decision.
Regular exercise will always be encouraged, we know (because of research from the American College of Sports Medicine) that getting your heart rate up for at least 30min, five days a week and doing two strength sessions per week you half your chance of dying from all causes of mortality. If you are having trouble completing this on your own, we may encourage you to return to our clinic for some exercise services. Life’s magic pill is exercise, and we will always advise and guide you to make this a fun part of your life - this is also why our clinic offers ongoing exercise, group training and clinic memberships so that you have a comfortable, supportive space to train in if you choose. We want you to come and train with us not because you feel like you have to but because you want to.
Another part of our business is education for health professionals and we run this under The Knowledge Exchange. Courses run by The Knowledge Exchange are approved and endorsed by the BJSM (British Journal of Sports Medicine), RACGP (Royal Australian College of General Practitioners), ESSA (Exercise and Sports Science Australia), Osteopathy Australia and The Myotherapy Association. The research and preparation that goes into our courses is very thorough and as well as using this to continue to deliver quality education to health professionals, we also use it to guide our practice at The Biomechanics so you are always getting the most relevant and best advice that is available.
We believe that everyone deserves access to the best healthcare available regardless of your financial situation. We do not discriminate between compensatory schemes, concession rates for services are available, as are bulk-billed services (eligibility is discussed at time of booking). We will always discuss your options with you when booking and will make sure there are no hidden costs and that you know exactly what to expect.
Being accessible and welcoming to all cultures, disabilities, nationalities, genders and just all human beings is our goal - we are learning as we go so please reach out at any time if there is something that we could be doing better.
We also provide resources such as free information, blog posts and informative social content so that everyone can have access to the latest research - we are here to help you interpret and implement it if needed.
We genuinely care about you and your health. In fact, we care so much that we have a money back guarantee on all of our services, thats how much we believe in them.
