Good Life with osteoArthritis from Denmark is an education and exercise program made by researchers in Denmark to help people with painful knees or hips. It’s all about understanding your condition and performing structured movement to feel better.
GLA:D® helps people of all ages who have aching and stiff joints. It doesn't matter if the pain is a little or a lot. This program can make the pain more manageable, helps you move better, and makes your life happier. Sometimes, you don't even need surgery like getting a new joint after completing the program.
Even some people who participated in research studies overseas found that when they did the GLA:D® program before getting knee replacement surgery, they got better faster. Similar “prehab” results have been shown forhip replacements.
After doing the GLA:D® program, people feel less pain and have a better life. It's like this in real life and even better than some other exercises for sore joints.
Out of every 4 people who did GLA:D®, 3 people say they feel less pain and have better quality of life after 12 months of doing the program.
Also, 3 out of 4 people who thought they needed surgery before the program don't need or want surgery after 12 months of doingGLA:D®.
GLA:D® and other exercise plans like it can make you feel better for lots of reasons. When you move your body, it can help you hurt less and move around easier. Exercise does many good things for you, like making your bones and muscles stronger and making you feel happier. Exercise is also a known way to help with some long-lasting health problems and makes the chances of getting other health issues lower.
The GLA:D® education sessions let your clinician teach you about the latest research evidence with opportunity to ask questions and discuss it with your clinician and other group participants.
GLA:D® exercises are targeted at your hips and knees which include 10 different exercises including a warm up and cool down. The exercises help improve your strength and function.
These sessions happen in small groups of 4 to 6 people. Each person does the same exercises but have different levels to suit people who have different function and pain levels. Our GLA:D® clinicians have been trained to know how best to change the exercises to make sure they are right for YOU!
When you try any new exercise, it's okay to feel a little bit of mild pain during and after the session, for up to one day (24 hours) – and maybe a little longer at first. Your GLA:D® clinician will help you learn how to check your pain, so you can challenge yourself without making your pain worse later on.
